Canoe Trail set up the Charity Canoe Race in Bedford to offer paddlers and everyday folk the opportunity to raise money for charity.
The Canoe Race is run in partnership with Bedford’s Viking Kayak Club. Originally Bedford hosted the 24 hour canoe race with 50 and 100 mile distances in teams on the Embankment which Richard took part in whilst at school. This new Canoe Race is about making a difference for charity and giving people the opportunity to race by canoe, kayak or SUP and raise funds for their chosen cause.
As event organizers Canoe Trail provide all necessary safety and event management as well as canoes, kayaks, SUP’s and kit for competitors. The inaugural event was supported by Team Beds and Luton who helped promote and support it.
The Charity Canoe Race is a great opportunity to paddle on Bedford's stunning Victorian Embankment by canoe, kayak or SUP and raise money for charity. The race is a mass participation event and a little different from the conventional running races with 2 and 4 hour formats in 1 mile laps in a circuit. You can enter as an individual, as a pair or in a team of 4. Canoe Trail will provide all the kit necessary and there are structured training sessions available at a subsidized cost. Enter on your own or as a team and make a difference.
The 2015 event raised over £750 for local charity Keech Hospice and had 30 competitors and participants in canoes, kayaks and SUP’s. The event was supported by Bedford Borough Council Event team and also had sponsorship from Bamboo Clothing and Go Outdoors.
