Richard, Ash, Aaron and the Canoe Trail coaching team are experienced coaches and are qualified under the BCU UKCC scheme. We have also undertaken a large number of the CPD modules including coaching young paddlers, white water safety and rescue, Sea kayak navigation, event management and others. We also have a large number of friends and associates who can provide tuition in different aspects of the sport. Our team coaching include GB level athletes, adventurers, DW racers and experience of all paddle sport disciplines. People come to us for coaching and tuition because we are friendly, break it down into simple steps, offer progression from basic paddling to expert level and because we have great kit and stunning training locations.
We can providing specific tuition and coaching for:
- Sea kayak skills from basic
- Kayak racing for competitive racing through to Charity and DW Races
- Canoe racing for the DW Race where Rob has won it three times
- SUP introduction through to more advanced SUP skills
- Canoe skills through to moving water and expeditions
- Kayak skills to white water and running big rivers
We can also organise trips and courses in different locations and regularly support charity events.
More than that as international guides they also have vast experience on different rivers and seas in many other countries. Through this they also believe in passing on useful hints and tips and strategies to improve your padding skills.
British Canoeing Star Awards
We can help you progress your qualifications and run British Canoeing 1,2 and 3 star awards throughout the year. We can also help with introductions to moving water and expedition training and preparation.
1 star British Canoeing Award
This is an introduction to paddle sport and will be a great taster day for those who haven't been in a boat or those who have had a little dabble. The best bit is, during all the fun and games of the day, you will be completing a 1 star award, which is the first step on your paddling qualification ladder.
The British Canoeing 1 star award is a multi disciplinary course which requires skills in both canoes and kayaks. Participants will work with our qualified and experienced coaches who will teach the foundation skills as well as ideas to progress in paddling.
The course includes paddling equipment with a canoes, kayaks and all neccessary paddling kit.
2 star British Canoeing Award
The British Canoeing 2 star award is a multi disciplinary course which requires skills in both canoes and kayaks. Participants will work with our qualified and experienced coaches who will teach the foundation skills as well as ideas to progress in paddling.
The course includes paddling equipment with a canoes, kayaks and all necessary paddling kit.
This course will be run over a couple of days paddle at different locations on the River Great Ouse including Bedford’s Victorian Embankment as well as exploring other parts of Bedfordshire’s rural countryside by canoe and kayak to practice techniques on different water and to include a journey. We will provide a full schedule and plans prior to the course including different locations we intend to use.
The course will include:
- Good forward paddling and stopping
- Safety and rescue techniques
- Journeys and planning
- Support strokes
- Risk management
- Steering, moving sideways
- Theory elements such as environment, safety, equipment, access and planning
You will need to bring a packed lunch, appropriate footwear and change of clothes
Successful performance at this level indicates that the paddler can use fundamental paddlesport
skills on flat water to control movement of both canoes and kayaks, and have an understanding of
how the paddle, boat, and water interact

We have trained a large number of customers for specific challenges and adventures including helping people kayak the channel, canoe the Great Glenn Canoe Traiil, River Great Ouse and the River Thames. Through our residential programmes we also help young people and corporates learn new skills through team building, bushcraft, goal setting and other team challenges.
We can also arrange for specific BCU courses and qualifications. We can organise paddling trips and micro adventures to a wide range of destinations within the Uk and abroad such as canoeing the Yukon, Great Glen Canoe Trail or sea kayaking off the South Coast.
