Kit and Equipment List for Kayaking and Canoeing

What to pack for a day or night kayaking or canoeing on the River

Whilst this list is not exhaustive it should provide you with a few clues and ideas for things to bring. Pack light and save your arms and back!

 

 

 

 

Personal Kit

  • Wash kit including toothbrush
  • Wellies or boots
  • Change of socks
  • Waterproof
  • Camera or phone
  • Warm hat or cap
  • Change of clothes
  • Personal water bottle
  • Sunglasses
  • Any medications
  • Possible string for glasses or sunglasses
  • Toilet Roll (pretty important)


“Your Bedroom”

  • Camp mat
  • Sleeping bag suitable for the weather and night temperature
  • Torch and replacement batteries
  • PJ’s


Other Useful Items and Possible Kitchen Sink

  • Citronella candles
  • Small handsaw for cutting wood
  • Tarp
  • Paracord
  • Knife
  • Leatherman
  • Suncream
  • Insect repellent
  • Hand sanitizer


Cooking and the Kitchen

  • Cooking utensils (can use green wood sticks)
  • Foil for campfire cooking
  • plates, bowls and mugs
  • Bin bags (allow extra for recycling)
  • Matches and or lighter
  • Tin opener
  • Knife


Snacks and Drinks

Remember to pack things you enjoy nibbling on and for main meals. You burn more calories in the great outdoors when doing fresh air miles

Things we recommend

  • Bananas (they have their own protective case evolved over a lot of years)
  • Jelly Sweeties
  • Bit of chocolate
  • Popcorn for the fire (can be cooked in a 2 x  sieves or a pan and lid)
  • Water and juice drinks (reduce plastic where possible)
  • Apples
  • Marshmallows and choc biscuits for S’mores
  • Sweet Potatoes for the fire or normal spuds
  • Bag of flour and bland of secret herbs to make breadsticks on the fire
  • Haloumi Cheese
  • BBQ stuff
  • Sweetcorn cooked on the open fire

  • We can provide a grill for the open fire if needs be

Pack Your House For the Night

There are a number of options for a comfortable nights sleep including one of our tipi tents.  You can also consider

  • Making a bivi shelter
  • Smaller Tents
  • Hammock

Remember if you are opting for self supporting canoe or kayak camp trip then if you pack it you carry it. Talk to us if you would like to book our drop off and pick up service for kit.
