Seasonal Full Time and Part Time Outdoor Instructors positions available. Jobs are based in Bedford. 

Canoe Trail our award-winning family business is recruiting for seasonal, part-time and full-time instructors for the 2020 season. We want instructors to help with our tourism activities in canoe, kayak and SUP, for our Duke of Edinburgh programmes and others such as adventure school and larger group activities. Our work ranges from seasonal tourism to corporate blue chip events and from simple half day activities to leading and coaching people in Bedford and further afield.

1. Seasonal Experienced and Qualified Instructors

Seasonal Outdoor Instructors
Full Time (flexible working window) includes weekends
Season from April to October
Salary £19,000 pro rata depending on experience and qualifications

We are looking for hard working instructors to join our team. Ideally staff will hold some national governing body qualifications in paddling (canoeing and kayaking) and potentially other qualifications such as Mountain Leader, SPA, Archery or similar. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record in the outdoors with relevant experience in paddling, hiking and expeditions or bushcraft activities.

Instructors should have a full driving licence and ideally be able to tow canoe trailers (or happy to learn) .

2. Seasonal Activity Leaders

Full Time (flexible working window) includes weekends
Season from April to October
Salary £19,000 pro rata depending on experience and qualifications

We are also interested to hear from people with a ‘love of the outdoors’ including those from the world of bushcraft, paddling (canoeing, kayaking and SUP) and hiking who are interested in developing as professional outdoor instructors. Applicants would need to demonstrate a common sense, ‘can do’ attitude and experience working in other sectors. We have a track record of helping staff develop skills and qualifications with mentoring, subsidized courses and instruction.

Staff need to hold a full driving licence and ideally be able to tow canoe trailers. (certificated training for trailers can be provided).

A full induction course will be offered starting on 6th April 2020 with scenarios, familiarisation and other tasks.

Canoe Trail is based in Bedford and runs tourism activities including day trips by canoe, kayak and SUP and canoeing and camping at our riverside campsite. We are a fun and vibrant team who work hard to share our love of adventure and the outdoors with our tourism customers, partner organisations and young people through our adventure school programme.

  • We run British canoeing Courses, programmes at our Bedford base and run expeditions and events further afield.
    Canoe Trail is a British Canoeing Approved Centre holding the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Mark and Adventure Mark.

  • Our SUP activities were in the Top 3 UK destinations according to Red Bull Magazine .
  • We are an approved activity provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, The Princes Trust and the CCF (Combined Cadet Force)

Day rates and salary negotiable depending on experience and qualifications . The roles are Bedford based with some travel to events and other locations for programmes and trips with different clients.
