Canoe Trail are delighted to have been awarded a Rural England Prosperity Fund Grant from Bedford Borough Council as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund by the UK Government for a Horsebox cafe, new coaching canoes and box trailers.
The Funding by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the support of the the Council has been instrumental in allowing us to grow and offer new facilities and activities.
Chief Paddling Officer, CPO, Ashley Kenlock commented "As a small family run company and local employer it is lovely to be awarded a grant from Bedford Borough to allow us to diversify and offer new activities. Our work with schools offering local children paddle and camp trips, tourism and hire where customers travel an average of 90 mins to paddle in Bedford will benefit from this grant".
Specifically the grant has allowed expansion and diversification with:
- A new horse box cafe for Kempston Outdoor Centre and local events called "Canoe and Brew"
- New canoes for our fleet from Esquif Canoes and Silverbirch to add to our fleet for trips and coaching activities
- A new box trailer to improve our delivery in schools allowing us to transport archery kit, air rifles, bushcraft and other elements
- The same box trailer will also improve woodland camps allowing us to transport sleeping bags, rucksacks and other kit for Duke of Edinburgh and school camps
- Additional new trailers for our woodland campsite to transport equipment
