If brewing companies did headlines this would be worthy.

To feature in the Times was another milestone for our family run business and better still it was under the heading of “22 Wild Fitness Holidays in the UK”. When we set out to share our passion for water and the great outdoors we might have crafted a similar headline on our wish list of media coverage. Boom! Tick, Mission Accomplished!.

Getting behind the headlines it is a testament to our team of professional outdoor instructors, kit and values that we got picked up for our Great Glen Canoe Trail expedition across Scotland from Fort William to Inverness. We are certainly not “Jonny Come Lately’s” as Rich first paddled it almost 30 years ago when it was still mainly known as the Caledonian Canal and that time he started at Ballachulish and paddled the narrrows. Rich and Ash then paddled it together as part of the Spare Seat Scotland 8 years ago just before their wedding starting near the Corryvreckan whirlpool before paddling up to Oban and then the Great Glen Canoe Trail.

Over the years we have paddled Loch Ness and various bits, the River Oich and local waters many times often starting at Dores and heading onto the River Ness on our original Best of Scotland. We even made the local news as a rare sighting of Nessie when our silver Grumman Canoes in the 90’s were mistaken for Nessies back and tail!!

So here is the piece the lovely people at the Times wrote about us …

7. Canoe the Great Glen

The Great Glen offers one of the best canoeing trips, and this guided paddle spans five days of glorious Highlands scenery: wild hills, castles, lochs (including Ness) and a section of the Caledonian Canal. Unsurprisingly there’s a lot of paddling involved, but nothing too hardcore: guides will help with technique and tips. You’ll be camping wild and eating simple, camp-cooked meals — but what an adventure. And you can expect a warming dram or two to ease stiff muscles. Paddling experience is required.

Details Five nights’ full-board camping from £649pp, including equipment; departs on Sept 27 (canoetrail.co.uk)
