Local Sourced Food

Canoe Trail are foodies at heart and love home cooked fresh and seasonal food options in our personal lives and on expeditions as far a field as Canada. As part of the HAF programme young people are served delicious fresh food where possible sourced from our local suppliers such as Pells Farm Shop and Seinfields Grocers. Break time involves healthy snacks such as raw fruit and veg with dips and lunch menus rotate with firm favourites including gourmet burgers, pizza making and loaded wraps with again fruit and veg accompanying the lunch.

About The Bedford HAF Programme

The origins of the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programmes funded by the Department for Education were linked to concerns about young people during school holidays with food security (not being fed) or having fun activities to fill their time. Marcus Rashford MBE and the Food Foundation championed national campaigns to get the programmes introduced and then extended.

Bedford Borough Council are responsible for running the HAF programmes locally and have spear headed an effective opportunity for young people to enjoy different activities during school holidays as a ‘holiday club’ format with credits provided under the council scheme. Of course a key element is the provision of good food choices and nutrition including lunch and snacks.

Just returned from a week in Scotland with Canoe Trail. It was one of the best organised trips I have done. The team were awesome, great instruction with loads of patience for those new to paddling.
